Blocked Access to Profiles?

Was a deliberate decision made to block access to profiles?  I noticed that they are now blocked (at least for me, and I don't know any reason that I would have been singled out for blocking), even profiles that I viewed before.

I've been playing with permissions in the forum to try to stop/slow-down the spammers.  I've got the view/edit profile stuff back the way it should be.  Let me know if you still cannot view/modify your profile.
