By the way, the British equivalent of Sadie Hawkins' day is The Ladies' Privilege.  However, this only comes around every 4 years, on February 29th.  The origins of the tradition are shrouded in myth, and although they are popularly described as dating back to either 5th century Ireland or 12th century Scotland, there's no clear evidence of where the tradition came from.  (Although these days, of course, if a lady wants to propose, there's no way she's going to wait up to 4 years).
