Forgive my puerile sense of humor, but "Peter Johnson" sounds a lot like "Dick Wiener".  ;D

That may well be intentional.

To clarify on the confusion expressed by Bert (or is it Ernie) in the next to last panel, military are indeed paid to fight.. ENEMY COMBATANTS, they are NOT paid to fight each other (except perhaps as a training exercise), brawl in bars or any form of street fighting which is usually what a charge of "fighting" means.

So, true story, they actually had a guy at my girlfriend's last job named "Peter Johnson" and one of her more naive supervisors was always unintentially dropping gems like "I'm sure Peter Johnson will fit in wherever we want to stick him" and the like...

Reminds me of a guy who worked in the department next door to mine at Pratt and Whitney who's name was Kent Clark, I kid you not.  His nickname of course was "Mansuper".    ;D

Thirty years ago, my father worked with two cousins from Louisiana. Their last name was Sinville. One cousin was named Marvin; the other was named Penous.

Penous Sinville.

If he'd applied for a job as a porn actor, they'd have told him to come back with a more believable name.

Oh the poor sods! What were their dear old dad and mom thinking?!

deadasdisco on August 21, 2009, 03:57:53 pm
Soooo.... "Pete the Pick" (excuse the snickering) torked off the martian branch of the Pashtun Darra Adam Khel?  Is this the same as the NWFP Pakistani Adam Khel clan, the arms-makers?  If so, I'm thinking that even if the fall hadn't 'splatted' him, he may have nearly reached the survivable critical mass of enemies... Pashtun gunsmiths.  Yeah.  That's a good bunch to have mad at you...

;D Truer words were never spoken!  But I have to wonder exactly what he had to do to get them mad at him.

Indeed, very very sloppy. He seems to have been a man with great talent, poor discipline.

That's generally who the big boys in the spy game like to hire.  People with a talent (?) for violence and discipline problems.  They seem to be willing to do the dirty work, in fact they usually enjoy it, and at the same time they're totally disposable and deniable if they get caught alive by the other side.  "What are you taking about?"  "He's not one of our guys."  "He's obviously a psycho."

Just got back to Panama this morning from Mars (okay, Ft. Lauderdale). I see I have some catching up to do.

"Peter" so he could be "Peter the Pick." "Johnson" because I wanted a common name.

Yes, it was intentional. It was a joke.

Yes, the group originally came from Darra Adam Khel. They took their gun making skills to Mars. While still Muslims, they are far more secular than the stay-at-homes.
