While I can understand how she feels, I do think that she misses a lot---basically, in a society like Heroic-Age Greece, a man who let a woman get away with "dissing" him would have the other men turning on him in a red-hot second.  "Ha ha, look at old what's-his-face, can't even keep his woman under control!"

That's a valid point, although Tyeano is not Telemachus' girlfriend. They did grow up together, but Tyeano is in fact Penelope's maidservant.

The point of this exchange is to explain some actions Tyeano takes later.

I remember what happened to the maidservants...which I always thought was kind of cold, even by the standards of Heroic-Age Greece.
