Might be a de facto banishment. Without using a state like power, they just let everybody know what you did. If individuals decide that they don't want to sell to you, buy from you, rent to you, etc. Well that's the free market. If you don't like it, leave.  If some don't care and still do business with you, well that is their right.

False imprisonment and torture just nets you a fine? I was expecting banishment or something. Even if that amount of money makes you bankrupt, its not much compared to the crime.

Again we have a description of the local legal system that matches the structure, if not the details, of the legal system in the land of Israel during the time of the judges. Rule by legal precedent, though is a difference and it's weakness. It allows legal creep that can go in wrong directions. The old "boil the frog" approach applies here.

Ummm, part of the point of the book of Judges is that this didn't work real well.  At the end, in the account of the murdered concubine, almost nothing anyone does is right thing to do.

Yep, the third was more of a Joke.

I doubt the last one because it would invalidate the point of empaneling a panel of judges.

One and two are both probable, one and two in tandem is also a possibility.

On the Judges.

1) They've worked together enough (centuries?) that they "know" what the others are thinking.

2) They may have communication cables connecting them out of our sight.

3) They are actually a single being with three sets of arms, three "uppper bodies" with the rest of its body hidden from our sight.  ;)

Well we learn that he has robotic arms (page=2015) much like Henry the neo-rooster had.

Also memory sticks look like 9 volt batteries.

Also the Judges finish each others' thoughts and they gave the other team an extra day to counter the introduced data. I wonder if the Bench is the only place in the room where Q-waves are not shielded?

Silly thought, he also has no arms & hands so how does he manage life?  ;)

I'd try to find a loo, too, if my toe were shat.

How will Perry feel about that?

I think he would prefer to let someone use his loo instead of tracking poo around the house.  Especially if it were his daughter.  "Skip to the loo, my darling!"
