Well, Quantum Vibe is still cranking along to my unalloyed delight.

Inasmuch as I use Escape From Terra as my Firefox bookmarks portal to Big Head Press, I'm not going to miss anything on this comic while waiting for the hiatus to conclude.

The interregnum is well-earned, and thanks to the producers of the strip for the work they've put into it thus far.

Thank you. There are many good stories in the pipeline. So we intend to go on for a long time.

It is indeed true that you have kept this comic going, never missing an installment, for a demanding schedule of five pages a week, for a very long time.

A short break is something those working on the comic deserve to enjoy for their fine and reliable work.

(Sigh) I really have to get this off of my chest.  I like everything you guys have done but I need a break from the "Honeymoon" storyline.  EFT has too many really interesting plot lines and characters for there to have been this focus on this trip.  I will add that it is not even the characters that I have a problem with.  It is simply a case of what I believed was an ensemble strip being too focused on one story.  Far be it from me to criticize, all I am saying is variety is the spice of life.  Please show us more space scouts, Vesta council storyline, the guy from Texas and I am also wondering if all those soldiers went back to Earth.  Regardless, please don't be upset with me for critiquing the free, quality entertainment. It was nice to see more of the Solar system.  I am not an ingrate but let me be clear; if it would not upset the applecart, please show us more of the characters we know and love, not just Reggie and Babbette on their honeymoon....
-O
PS- Please understand, I really like the strip, I just want to see more of the other story lines...

Thank you for your complements and thoughtful comments. In writing the short stories that Scott adapts into scripts and the artists bring to life, I strive for variety. So we have had comedy, philosophy, mystery, war and romance--to name a few examples. I am using different genre to explore different aspects of the future history of EFT. In the process, not everyone will be interested in every approach. For example, my guess is you don't go to many "chick flicks." If not, though, you may be missing out on some good stories.

Many years ago, I was attracted to a woman I met through friends. I invited her to a movie of her choice. She picked "Coal Miner's Daughter," the life story of Loretta Lynn. You cannot imagine my disappointment. Well, it turned out to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was an absolutely inspiring tour de force by Sissy Spacek and to a lesser extent, Tommy Lee Jones. I didn't get laid, but I saw a great movie I would not otherwise have enjoyed. You just never know.

However, there is another aspect of the way in which I write my stories. They not only stand alone, but also serve as the framework for introducing other story lines and subplots. Think back on what this "honeymoon" has told us about Martian society, life on Venus and how the rich and powerful operate in the EFT future. This is part of the ever-expanding tapestry we are exploring.

In any case, don't worry. Humor, adventure, conflict, intrigue and daring-do are not that far off. So please stay tuned. Let's just see what happens on Monday, for example...

I appreciate your not getting defensive.  I have been in writing workshops where no one at all was nice so I really do try think before I type; you can't unthrow a rock a someone's house.  I do, in fact have a collection of Jane Austen movies and I get what you are doing- the tour is a vehicle for showing more of the EFT universe.  I just think we have been on the honeymoon, a really, really long time.  I did not say it didn't have value, I would just like for the story not to be so focused on them.  And no, I am not going anywhere..... I do like the story(ies).  Free quality entertainment is hard to come by.

Here's how I look at it. You are reporting what you like and don't like. I welcome constructive criticism, because it often points out things I missed, due to snow blindness. What gets on my nerves are the no-talent yahoos who presume to tell me how I should have written something better in some sort of absolute terms. You did not do that. The "honeymoon" is too long for you. Got it. It is up to me, however, to decide if it is too long for most readers. Maybe it is. This is useful information for me.

Now, let me say something about writing workshops. Be very, very careful. For starters, any course that is called "creative writing," is most likely crap. If organizers don't understand that all writing is creative, then they do not have a clue about. These are the folks who think "creative writing" means blank verse and typing in all lower case.

Second, as you have noted, a very ugly group dynamic often arises in such workshops. I would rather participate in a communist "self-criticism session" than subject myself to the vicious attacks of a bunch of unpublished, wannabe "creative" writers, who presume to instruct me on how to write.

Finally, while such workshops do achieve a very important goal--getting you to write--I am not sure it's worth the candle. If you need to be pushed to write, you will never "graduate" from the workshop mentality.

So until I get off my duff and create my own writing course, I make this offer to any EFT Forum member. If you want to write, I will read any 250 word (about a page) writing sample you would like me to critique. I will give you helpful, professional suggestions. I will be honest, but positive and compassionate. Normally, I would charge $25-50 for such a writing critique. For you (and probably only until I get tired of it), free. (Of course I am only to accept your prayers and free-will donations.)  ::)

I am offering to do this, because it is my nature; I am a helper bee. Also, I really appreciate the EFT readers who have continued to vote for EFT in the Top100 Comic. Honestly, I thought this two-week lacuna was going to see our rating tumble. It didn't happen and now we are three calendar days away from starting our short climb back into the top 100. Thanks.

If you mean the link for the TopWebComics vote, it's to to your right when viewing the comic, the spot with a numeric rank (at the moment 112 or so, a bit lower than normal).

This coming week we will be switching back to Ceres for a while, continuing the story of Guy's cousin Pierre and his misadventure. We will also see what happens when a Cererean kills someone with intent that is good but turns out to be mistaken. Then we'll run back over to Mercury in time to see Babbette and Reggie complete their tour, and meet an important new character who will launch a whole new story arc.

No compaints here but there do seem to be plenty of story lines going and it was simpler at least when it was Harris against Reggie and that's it.

I was off the comic for most of the summer then this struck me when I started reading more regularly again. Great stuff folks and the honeymoon interludes are nice but maybe a tad more focus on fewer main stories?

Good to be back!
