Title: HTML error on p.153: double-quote in script
Post by: rclocher3 on June 29, 2009, 11:21:08 am
Hi all, and a big THANK YOU to the folks who make Odysseus the Rebel happen.  I'm enjoying the story a lot!  I read the Cliffs Notes version of the story years ago and so I know the rough outline of how the story ends, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how Grant and Bieser do it.

Anyway, there is an HTML error that prevents the page from being properly displayed on Opera and possibly other browsers.  There is a double-quote in the page script again.  The page script is of course used as the text for the "alt" attribute of the <img> tag for the page image.  Since the text of an attribute is delimited by double-quotes, double-quotes aren't allowed in the text.  Some browsers see past the error and display the image, and some don't.  The easy fix is to substitute one or two single-quotes for the double-quotes.

Cheers!

Thanks for catching this.  These are direct cut and pastes from the scripts, and we try to catch these, sometimes we miss them.  I've replaced the double quotes with singles (or apostrophes as the English teachers out there call them).
Title: ... and again on p. 154

Frank, thanks for the wonderful story and the art, and for making available online.  And thanks for fixing yesterday's glitch.

That being said, it's happened again on p. 154!  Maybe it would be easiest to search-and-replace the document that contains the script, and replace all double-quotes with pairs of single-quotes, er I mean apostrophes.

Cheers!

Done.  There were just a few more.  Thanks for the help!  -- Frank

You really only need three things: WD-40, Duct Tape, and a pointy stick. If it's supposed to move and doesn't, use the WD-40. If it moves and isn't supposed to, use the Duct Tape. If you want it to move and it doesn't want to, use the pointy stick. The rest of life is easy.

Ha Ha Ha.  That reminds me of a story that I read a while back about a guy about to go on USAF pilot survival training.  He was complaining about having to spend a week out in the boonies with only a survival knife, some paracord and a clear piece of plastic.  The instructor told him that he was lucky that he didn't have to go through the course when he (the instructor) had.  Back then you only got a pointed stick and a paper bag and if you lost either one you were expected to pay for it.  Just a joke guys.  ;D
