So far none have been successful, many have failed, more haven't even gotten off the ground. Critics label more than a few playgrounds for the rich, novel tax shelters, or outright frauds or criminal enterprises. Proponents cite them as the wave (no pun intended) of the future and the beginning of the end of states.

I offer no opinion. I am fascinated by the engineering and technological details, and I support the right of anyone to form their own country or community however they see fit.

Though I wonder how the Freedom Ship or a seastead would handle a 100-foot rogue wave.
