'You gang-raped a chinese girl...'  Fine. Every time you even try to use force against another person or harm anything living, you get to re-live the rape and stomping exactly as the victims experienced it. Oh, and by the way, I've just made you very long-lived and you can't commit suicide. Welcome to hell.

She picked the very BEST method, in my opinion, to deal with the crime.  Very messy and the perp doesn't get the chance to learn to enjoy the 'agony' - I'm quite sure some would.  Plus, there's absolutely NO recidivism after punishment has been carried out.  Always a plus in my book. Cheesy

I agree with Delphid96.  L. Neil covered it in his book "Tom Paine Maru" when he said something along the lines of "You can tell how advanced a civilization is by how they deal with their criminal element.  A really primitive society will torture to death it's criminals while a civilized one will simply and humanely put them to death."

A clean quick death has to be *earned*. Those guys hadn't earned it.

These guys earned being removed from society altogether.

She's not a sadist.

My proposal isn't sadism, simply a teaching tool: If they stop trying to hurt other people, they stop reliving the experience.  And the long life makes sure they get LOTS of practice before their next incarnation.

How exactly did they learn anything?  They're dead.   Remember?

Inflicting endless pain is an act of sadism.

This wasn't about teaching them a lesson. It's about removing them from civil society altogether.

I think it's a mistake to view Susan LaMuse as some sort of paragon of perfect justice. She's not a Goddess, and she certainly is not flawless; she is a person who happens to have virtually limitless powers over matter and space, and a point of view derived from her growing up in the 1980s-90s as the daughter of moderate-leftist political activists.

The way I view that scene, she killed those guys because it was an easy way to deal with them and the rape/assault incident she read in their minds particularly pissed her off.

Torture is rarely a useful teaching process.  (yes, they might pass the test, what grade will you award?).  It's always better to kill quick and get it over with, otherwise it's just revenge.  To quote Lady Sally from Spider Robinson's Callahan's Lady, "Revenge doesn't fix anything and it gets your soul all sticky".  (While he's a bit of a socialist, I consider Spider my second favorite writer since Heinlein died) (if you don't know who my first favorite (post-Heinlein) is, you should pay more attention, I didn't come here just to La Muse myself).

Another point is that if you have someone who has just committed a terrible crime it's far better as far as I'm concerned to kill that person than it is to hurt them badly and teach them "a lesson".  If you do then you have to look over your shoulder the rest of your life, or at least the rest of their life to make sure that they don't decide to commit revenge on you.   Sad

I just read the April 23 section and all I can say is that of all of the possible outcomes I had thought of from the week before that was one that I hadn't expected.  Cheesy

Just finished reading this weeks edition of La Muse and all I can say is that Todd must be the biggest idiot that ever walked on two legs.  He's about to anger a woman that can literally do anything to him and he's not the least bit concerned?  L. Neil said it best in one of his stories "Life is an intelligence test."  I think this little idiot is just about to flunk.   Wink

You'd be amused how many idiots like Todd there are out there in real life, especially in the film and entertainment industry.
